Jannett Arreola Junior Spelling Bee Champ

The 2019 Ochiltree County Junior Spelling Bee was held Thursday, January 31 in the Williams Intermediate Cafetorium.  Fifty-one fourth and fifth graders lined up to compete.  After eight rounds, Fifth-grader Janett Arreola took top honors.
Eleven contestants were eliminated in the first round and eighteen more sat down after round two.  Round three took out a third of those remaining and after a very tough fourth
round only seven remained.
Three more students stumbled in round five leaving just four contestants for round six.  The last remaining fourth-grader, Aaron Trevizo went out in fourth place followed by Samuel DeSantiago in third.
In round seven,
Reeci Scott missed her word and Arreola spelled her word and one more, DISSERTATION, in the eighth round to claim the top prize.
The top three spellers received a prize package from local businesses.  Donations came from Chihua’s Restaurant, Daylight Donuts, Dixie Dog, Game On Graphics, La Casita Restaurant, Lowes Supermarket, Margarita’s Restaurant, McDonald’s, Pak-A-Sak, Perryton Activity Center, Perryton Office Supply/Radio Shack, Pizza Hut, Sonic Drive-In, Subway, Tot N Totum, United Supermarket and Watonga Cheese Factory.
Additionally, they received cash prizes from the four local banks; Interstate Bank, First National Bank, FirstBank Southwest
and Perryton National Bank. Arreola earned a $125 check, $100 for Scott and $75 for DeSantiago.
Janett Arreola will now join 6th, 7th and 8th graders February 6th for the Ochiltree County Senior Spelling Bee with the winner of that event going to the Regional Bee later this spring.
