School Board Delays School One Week for Staff Training
The PISD Board of Trustees met Monday, July 20 for a two-item special meeting. The board discussed the Wisdom Learning Management System that was presented at the June regular meeting. The system will help link students, parents, teachers and administrators and help facilitate blended learning, in-person, and remotely.
Previously, members of the board had requested feedback to the district’s teachers about the system. It was reported that a survey of teachers was strongly in favor of the system. After additional discussion, the board voted to adopt the system and implement it at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
In order to allow teachers additional time to learn the new system, the board approved a one-week delay in the start of the 2020-2021 calendar. School will now start on August 17, 2020. The new calendar can be viewed on the PISD website at www.perrytonisd.org.
PISD Superintendent Jame Mireles stated that the goal is to “go slow to go fast.” Adding a week of staff training on Wisdom will make for a smoother start to the school year. Mireles says, “We want to reduce some of the issues we had last spring with remote learning. It will be easier for parents to manage multiple students without needing to log in to different locations for each child.”
Online parent training on Wisdom will be available prior to the start of school.
The board also approved the following personnel for hire: Jamie Sloan, PHS Assistant Principal; Kenton Sloan, PHS Technology Applications Teacher; Jonathan Delgado, PHS Spanish Teacher; Carrie Grimes, PHS Special Education Teacher; Taunia Logan, PHS Art Teacher; Taylor Nittler, PJH RTI ELAR Teacher/Coach; Jacqueline Herrera, PJH Science Teacher. The following personnel transfers were approved: Kathryn Broome - PHS Technology Applications -Transfer to Wright Counselor; Janet Cummings - LPMAEC/Kinder Counselor -Transfer to PJH/Kinder Counselor.
The regular monthly meeting of the School Board is set for Tuesday, July 28 at 6:00 p.m.
