Cross Country and Jr. High and Elementary UIL Recognized at Board Meeting

The December 17 monthly meeting of the Perryton ISD Board of Trustees was highlighted by student recognition.  The meeting started with the PHS Cross Country team including the Boys Team who finished third in the state.  They included: Adrián Ceniceros, Julián Rivero, Jonathan Alaniz, Jorge Palma, Eduardo Castillo, Javier Ledezma, Alejandro Uribe. Also recognized was Paola Uribe who placed 32nd at Regionals individually.

Coach Kurt Haberthur talked about the football season and how the team turned things around mid-season and made it to the area round of the playoffs.  He expects to build on that progress next year.

Wright Elementary Principal Tiffany Bietz, who is the district coordinator for Academic UIL competition share the long list of students who placed high in the competition including numerous District Champions.  Bietz said it’s the best PISD has ever done at this competition.  CLICK FOR LIST

The board held an extended executive session to due the annual performance review of the superintendent.  Another executive session at the end of the night was to discuss safety.

The Perryton Youth Sports Association was recognized for their donation of a new scoreboard in the Kelly Gym.

Superintendent James Mireles discussed some renovations to part of the administration building to accommodate the new Academic Coaches working under Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Maria Rocque.  These coaches will soon have a dedicated area to work out of as they provide assistance to all teachers in the district. 

In other business, the board, heard monthly campus and director’s reports; approved a revised banking resolution updating signature cards to match the change in board officers at the last meeting; and set the date for the next meeting on January 21, 2021 at 6:00 at the PISD Admin Building.
